MEN’S BREAKFAST BIBLE STUDY

The Men’s Breakfast Bible Study meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 8:00 a.m. in the Simeon Center. All men are welcome to join.

JOY FELLOWSHIP

Just Older Youth meets on the third Wednesday of each month (September – May), 12:30 - 2:00 p.m., in the Simeon Center.

All seniors are invited to attend. We enjoy a lunch provided by Gloria Dei, as well as a program or activity to make our time together even more enjoyable.  Of course, the most important thing is getting out and seeing everyone in our beautiful church environment—the Fellowship!  We’ve sung songs, created some easy seasonable crafts, and shared many stories.

After all these months of zooming, coming together for fellowship has become even more of a blessing. Watch the Weekly for details on our upcoming plans.

WELCA

What is WELCA? It’s an easy way to say Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Quite a mouthful, we know. Our organization includes Lutheran women who gather for service, study, advocacy, fellowship and more! WELCA embraces all kinds of ministries that support our mission of mobilizing women to act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ. There is a place for you in Women of the ELCA.

The Women of Gloria Dei are excited that our Lenten Journey this year will include the compilation of the Personal Care Kits for Lutheran World Relief.  These kits are supplied to people all over the world, including the US, who have experienced catastrophe.  Often, LWR is among the first relief organizations to arrive at a disaster scene and the last to leave.  The kits contain the barest of human necessities—toothbrush, combs, soap.  This is a vital and blessed ministry that has felt the strain of multiple serious world disasters the past few years at a time when it was a serious challenge for groups to assemble the kits.  We are focused on this as a Gloria Dei/WELCA mission during Lent. As in the past, the Gloria Dei Girl Scouts, Troop 1041, will help assemble the kits.

Each kit contains five very specific items.  When you shop, please buy these and only these.  For example, each kit has a toothbrush; but, please, no toothpaste.

The toothbrushes should be wrapped individually; but if they are in a larger package, we’ll put them in individual envelopes. When you choose a towel, it should be a medium size (approximately 20 x 40), a medium to dark color, and light weight enough to wring out by hand; please NO white or very light colors; also, no hand towels or washcloths.

This list is for a complete kit.  You don’t have to buy all the items for a kit.  If you can get a towel, get a towel; and we will combine it with the offerings of others to make a complete kit.  This is a great Lenten mission for everyone—focused on giving as Christ gave to us.  Take this list with you to shop and thank you for being God’s hands and a willing worker in His kingdom.

Collections will begin on Ash Wednesday, March 2, and continue through Lent.  Leave items in the box in the Atrium.  Drive-through drop-off events will be on Saturdays, March 26 and April 16.

Please contact Rita Foringer at rforinger@verizon.net with questions.

What we need for LWR Personal Care kits:

1. Nail clippers (these can do multiple jobs if they are the sturdy heavy-duty ones)
2.  Comb (no thin or “rat-tail” combs; choose a sturdy comb)
3.  2 full-sized bath soap bars (no hotel sizes or travel sizes)
4.  Medium weight bath towel, about 20x40” to 52x28” in a medium to dark color
5.  Full-sized adult toothbrush (no travel sizes; leave in packaging)
