Ninth Sunday after Pentecost

Hello from Your Pastoral Call Committee

Call Committee Members:

Dale Green (Chairman)

Pastor Freeborn               Linda Robinson

Joe Martin                         Rita Foringer

Jim Stewart                       Rachel Lomax

Bob Kaufmann                  Jenny Sutherland

Joe Morrison                     Ashley Ruhl

Your Pastoral Call Committee was officially installed during the July 11 worship service.  Immediately following the service, the committee met with Pastor Jean Bozeman, Assistant to the Bishop, for a three-hour orientation session.  Pastor Bozeman will serve as Bishop Mauney’s representative to the committee and will help guide committee efforts.  Pastor Bozeman provided us each with a Virginia Synod Handbook for the Call Process and reviewed the process with us.  She provided excellent insight and anecdotal comments for us.  The committee will now begin the process of searching and interviewing prospective pastoral candidates, culminating in a pastoral call recommendation to the congregation once a suitable candidate is found.

I will be providing you with updates on our progress to keep you as informed as possible.  I do, however, want to be sure you understand the Call Process is a confidential activity, but not a secretive one.  Your questions and comments are welcomed by each of us, but please realize there will be things we will not be able to discuss.

There are four main sources of candidates for us:

o    Names from the congregation

o    Recommendations from the Bishop

o    Pastors who identify themselves

o    Mobility papers

Regarding the first of these, names from the congregation, if you have a name please give it to one of the Call Committee members.  They will, in turn, provide it to me, and I, to the Bishop.  Please do not contact anyone directly; we must work this through the Bishop.

Questions or inputs regarding the call process may be directed to the committee chair at YourCallCommittee@gloriadei.net.  Additional information and status updates will be posted on the church website under the “Pastoral Call Process” link.

We all ask that you keep your Call Committee in your prayers.

Peace,

Dale Green

Financial Peace University

Here are some of the comments about Financial Peace University!

“Like most Americans, I spent most of my life thinking debt was normal, and that there was no way that I would ever get out of it.  When I stumbled on to Dave Ramsey, I was stressed-out about money, and wasn't sure about my financial future.  Dave taught me how to get control of my financial life and how to get out of debt, even using principles taught straight out of the Bible.  It's now 3½ years later and, by using the tools he's given me, I am no longer stressed out about money.  I have a plan now for how to save, spend, and give.” – Gloria Dei member who is now debt free!

Financial Peace University completely changed the way we think about money.  Now, we communicate better and work together as a couple toward a common financial goal.  We only wish we had heard of this class and applied the baby steps years ago--we would have made SO many different decisions (and would have been debt free by now!).” – non-Gloria Dei member

"During FPU, I had many moments of regret and thoughts of ‘if only.’ But this class quickly puts you on the path to better understanding your spending habits and, most importantly, gives you the tools to reach financial freedom." non-Gloria Dei member (who will be debt free this month)

Interested in discovering how God really wants you to give, spend, and save? Come to our free preview, Sunday, August 1, at 9:30 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. in the Luther Library or Thursday, August 5, at 7:00 p.m.

Now is the time to get on the path toward financial peace.  For more information, please contact Ramona Rice at 757-329-1644 or rehernandez001@yahoo.com.  You may also visit www.FPU.com for more information about Financial Peace University.

You may write your hymn request on a slip of paper (use ELW hymn numbers) and place it in the offering plate.  You may also e-mail your requests to msunderland@gloriadei.net.  Please have your requests made by Sunday, August 8.  If we have too many suggestions, requests may be used at a later date.

Last Call for Yellow Pages!

The purpose of Gloria Dei Member-to-Member Yellow Pages is to make available names and occupations of members of our church family in the hope that we can promote one another whenever possible...including youth services, such as babysitting, lawn care, etc.

In no way should the listings of a person’s name in the “Yellow Pages” equate to an endorsement of the service by Gloria Dei or its staff.  We are merely attempting to make this information available to those seeking to do business within our church family.

It is our hope that this book will become a useful tool to our members.  Please feel free to contact us with any suggestions or comments.

If you wish to be included in this publication, please complete the form below and return it to us no later than Sunday, August 22.  Thanks!!
